I have something hanging off the bottom of my car and I have no idea what it is for... it doesn't really seem to do anything. It's in the back where the driveshaft connects to the rear axle and just fits around that connection point. It is secured there by two long bolts and one of them lost a nut so it hangs off of just one of the bolts. Any ideas as to what it is and if it is safe just to remove it?

 

one, this is not classified as a Mustang and two, do you have a pic? I am really into the FOX Mustangs, and I am having a hard time seeing what you are talking about in my head

 

Just guessing.....but, it might be the axle/differential ID tag.

nah, that is on the diff cover, held on by a bolt, I think that it is the snubber, and it is needed

 

When I think of a snubber, I think of an electrical circuit used to suppress electrical transients.

looks like the end of a muffler clamp to me, or a u bolt, or something along that nature.............
