Default Rust help

So i got a pair of tri y headers the other day from my friend and they are completly rusted out. Like someone paint them with it. My question is what is the best way to get them clean. I have already started on one with my sander but thats taking a very long time. Any info would help.

some sort of media blasting....or dipping in acid stuff....but those are both very costly if you dont already have the stuff........if they are rusted inside i dono how your going to get the crud out without a huge pipe cleaner and a lot of hard labor.......

You can use a wire brush on the end of a drill. Depending on how bad they are rusted that should take it off pretty quick. Than make sure to apply some high temperature paint...

whoa...back up there. where are you sanding?? Do not just sand the gasket surfaces, you could cause pitting or miniscule leaks from uneven sanding like that. It's okay to sand everything but the gasket surfaces. That's just asking for more work.

The 3M rust stripper pads work well. I assume you mean they are coated with rust, not rusted through. How are you going to protect them form rusting again?

yeahh, i mean if you dont have access to any of this stuff....you could like hand sand i guess.....but that dosent make sure the insides are clean.......or u could bring it to get sandblasted....which theres a good chance it will be more for that than to just buy some new tri-y's....

try posting them in craigslist and see what you can get people to bite for.....if its good then it would just displace the cost of new ones....
