Default I need instructions...

I know this is sort of a repost but all the other ones on this topic didn't do me much good. I'm probably going to pull out my Cali emissions this weekend (finally) and need DETAILED instructions. I'm really good at messing up easy things so any knowledge would be great. How do I get this thing off? Thanks in advance

I just did this a while ago. I kinda messed up, but now I know what I did wrong. You are going to start off by taking out the four bolts that hold the brakets on. There is one braket in front of the engine that sticks strait up, and I kept that one on. I did because when I went to remove it, water started leaking. So I'll wait a while on that one...anyways, once you remove the actual pump, you just have hoses and fittings to take off. I had to take off the valve cover in order to be able to take off the 6 fittings that keep the whole thing on there. You need to take one of these two pieces to the parts store and buy plugs that will fit the application (depth and threading). Once you plug the 6 holes, you have one LITTLE one that came from the vacuum to the carb I believe. It had a LITTLE tiny hose coming out, and I believe you have to plug that one too. It's never good to have a vacuum leak.

Hopefully that will help. Let me know if you need pictures and I'll spend some more time and hook you up.

GOOD LUCK!

When you say brackets, do you mean the 4 bolts that are attached to the pulley? If you left one of the brackets on then how did you get the emissions out?

I rebuilt my engine last December in my garage and did the exact same thing first what engine do you have? I have the 289. Do you have the heads off the engine? Do you have the emsion tube going down on both sides of your heads ? If so you need to remove them once they are off it is much easer where the smog tubes were there are eight holes one for each cylinder you will then need to look in the exaust port holes. you should see a long tube like thing in there. you will need to take a flat tip screwdriver insert it in the exast port where the tip of the screwdriver is under the tube and try to push that tube out once you get it loose a little you should be able to wiggle the tube out a little then you will use a neddle nose pliers to pull it out. It is not as hard as it sounde. ford still makes the plugs for those holes I used them on my engine i have hade no problems at all. If you have any more questions please e-mail me your phone number and i can talk you threw it step by step I this girl can do it any one can My e-mail address is km4799@***.net. goodluck Kelly

Thank you for your input Kelly, and welcome to the classic section of the Mustang Forums. I can already tell you have a tremendous amount of expert advice to add to the forum, and I welcome that.

Oops, I was under the impression that she had a 200 I6. I guess I just automatically assumed that when I saw her post. Fiddlesticks.
