Default 9"

Ive been looking into switching over to the 9" when i drop more power into my 66 and was wondering what is the best way to go about finding one, buying, gearing and any scraps of information i can get on it. my car is a 66 coupe that will have 300+ hp and torque to a T-5 if it can handle the power not sure yet.

Jeggs has what they call super 9s along with stockers, that are direct fit but they are pricey. I have plans for the super 9 when I get to that point. The t-5 can handle I belive 300 ft/lbs of toruqe if you plan on more tourqe then that ford racing makes a super T-5 that can handle alot more.

oly good t-5 is from g-force.

you will need a 9 inch that measures about 52" from housing flange, and about 57" from the axles. I got mine out of a 58 something because it has dimples. they are direct swap for 65-66. i have to cases, one has 3.10s and the other 4.11s. i took them apart for cleaning. if your interested let me know. oh yeah i have axles also.

for the t5... it depends on what year it was produced, if it was rebuilt and with what gears, or if its new.

the drive shaft has to spin 4.11 times for every one revolution of the back wheel(s). So that means the TQ is multiplied and that you will rev higher at a given speed then before.

greater levelage to move the car forward, but top speed will be less, and your RPM at cruise speeds will be higher, the overdrive in the T5 will make it liveable but with 4.11 gears you will be shifting ALOT. I would suggest 3.55-3.73 gears.

With 4.11 you will come out of the hole real hard but it wont pull as hard thru the rpm as a taller gear will. With only 300hp they would work pretty good if your engine makes most of its power above 3500 rpm. 4.11s work good on the street, you know stop and go city type driving, but you do end up shifting alot more.

Since you are thinking 9", you can have two gearsets set up, one with like a 3.55 and one with 4.11. Its a poor mans quick change, you can see what the car and you like best, and swap them around as needed. I have 3.00, 3.25, 3.50, and 4.11 gears for 9" rear under the Fords I have. I can do pretty much anything I want gear wise with them.

You can beef up you're 8 inch to handle 350hp with ease. I just upgraded and rebuilt my 8 inch. New bearings, seals, 3:55's and a Richmond locker with upgraded cross pins. According to Richmond, it should handle 350hp without an issue and up to 400hp.

Go to a junk yard and look for any of these cars to rob the 9" rear from.
