Most of what I've been reading is a "normal" C4 that hasn't had extensive beefing up really shouldn't but used for much over 300HP. Most of the stronger engine people have switched to C6 or T5. I forgot the name of it but there's is an extra strength T5 which runs like $2k (didn't price around much) or more that you might want if you're actually putting that much to the wheels

If you want an auto trans get a FMX transmission.

FMX is limited in choice for converters. FMX is a good trans with a cast iron case. Almost as heavy as a C6. Stock behind Clevelands in Mustangs.

The C4 will live with that for quite a while if built properly. Even a relatively stock rebuild will last a while. IF you dont mind learning how to rebuild one, the kids are less than $75 and it only takes about 3-4 hours to go thru one, provided you dont break anything.

There are C4s runnin in the 9s in 3000lb cars, yes they have been worked but its still a C4. Do your burn out in 1st or 2nd only, not 3rd. Dont downshift at the big end to slow down, just put it in neutral. They take ALOT less power to drive than a C6 and they are a substantial amount lighter. Good luck finding a C6 that fits the small block pattern. FE and 429/460 cases abound, but not so with the small block pattern you need for a Cleveland.

Whats your combo? I am curious as to what you are running to make 450whp... That is pretty good especially if you are on pump gas.

I think he means rear wheel horsepower, and not flexplate horsepower.

A T5 isnt a high horsepower transmission by any means. 300ft/lbs of tourque is the limit. maybe a bit more...ive heard 330 too but i dont know.

What you would want is TKO or T-56 or something.....or a C6 if u want an auto.....
