Default buying a rebuilt engine

I am restoring a '65 convert. Front fenders are gone. Radiator is gone. Radiator support is gone. Might as well pull the engine. Local (Chicago) shops want $1500-$1600 to rebuild the 170 6 banger. I see rebuilts offerd online around $1000-$1100. I know the locals history. Is there a place online to buy that is trustworthy?

I know a place that sells 302 and 351 engines without the manifold of course.
I am looking into getting one from them in CA. I live in NY though.

They look pretty tight.

You may have to pay a little extra for a local with a good reputation to rebuild your 170, but you will have him close to fix anything with a local warranty whereas getting a warranty honored by an internet company would be much harder I would think. Since you are already taking out the engine, I would suggest that you step up to the I200 6 cylinder for about the same price. It not only is more powerful, it has proven itself as bullet proof. You can also get some nice mods for it if you want to make it more powerful in the future. Check into http://www.Fordsix.com

i would also suggest the 200ci. i have one (for now) in my 66 and it is a beast. i could keep up with quite a few cars and my carb was shot. as for fordsix, they have good stuff, but i have ben waiting about 2 years on them to make a hi-po intake manifold that will accept a 2bbl carb, and now all they've done is a tbi system, which looks pretty cool, but there's no numbers and no price tag the last i checked. i finally got fed up with waiting and realized, i'm not selling her, so why keep it stock? i'll just hold the motor and find the 3-speed somewhere and hold 'em in case for some wild *** reason, i get the dumb idea to sell her.

I have a rebuilt 200 sitting in a garage I wouldn't mind getting rid of , but its been sitting there for about 5 or 6 years. it may need to be taken apart and gone thru again. I also have the 3 speed manual trans with about 10 miles on it stored at the same place. If interested I also have alot of 65 parts from a 65 parts car I dismantaled. E-mail me if interested in any of this stuff.

I have had nothing but good service from these folks. Their prices are fair, and the 7/70 warranty shows they have confidence in their work. I have never had any problem out of them.
