Default Just shuts off

Assuming that everything is wired almost correctly, why would the car just shut off? It'll crank back up with some coaxing. It's drivable.

tuned to specs? timing off? do you start it and it shuts right off or do you run it for a little while before it shuts off?

Shuts off as in like is dying due to lack of or too much gas, or like you cut the key off?

It will sit there and idle all day once she gets warmed up. Last night I backed her out in the road for a test drive and when I put her in drive, she quit. Only did it once. I'm thinking fuel. The motor is a "less than 10 miles on it" rebuild so I'm taking any chances yet.

It quit abruptly but not quite like you killed the key.

what kind of shape is the carb in? it sounds to me like there may be a problem with your carb/fuel pump. i think you're either flooding or starving the the motor and could be due to the carb or your fuel pump pushin too much out. poss. even a tune issue, but you did say it was a 10 mile motor. did you check the plugs anyway? maybe it could be a faulty plug not firing and stressin the motor. does your exhaust smell like you're running rich or lean at all?

also, what motor/carb setup do you have?

Could be anything from fuel to ignition. I would go through the fuel tests first, then venture to the ignition second in this case.

using points and condensor ignition or electronic? If it's points and condensor, condensor could be worn out/overheating. I'd switch to a pertronix for reliability sake and go from there.

fuel pressure? might want to try a gauge and see where that is at too.

Will be going to Pertronix soon. The carb is an Edelbrock, engine 302. I'll do the fuel checks first although we have a glass fuel filter and it's showing alot of gas so I guess maybe the carb should be checked first.
