Default saggin down low.

i took my car out of the garage yesterday and let it sit in the yard for a while, i noticed the rear end seemed to sag down pretty low. most likely worn out leaf springs. i got under it and im pretty sure they are the original leafs and it had Gabriel Red Rider shocks, ever heard of these? my question is what leaf spring set up should i run, an inch higher, an inch lower, or stock height. i also want to put the 1 inch drop coils in the front and plan on runnin 235/45/17's in the front and 245/45/17's in the back. any suggestions and places to shop would be greatly appreciated. 1968 Coupe 289.

i have a 1968 mustang coupe with 302 and i have 235/45/17's on my car and it sits a tad high in the back....im probably going to get new leafs with reverse eye's so it will drop one inch to match the 1 inch drop coils up front......

just depends on the stance u want.....

I like the way my 65 looks with standard eye leaves. It is level from front to rear.

Soaring,

Sorry to hijack this but you stated that you used standard 4 leafs in the back. What did you use in front?

Thanks,
Bob

Would you believe I am still running 40 year old springs in front. I have 620's on order, but it may be a few weeks before I get to install the new suspension.

ORIGINAL: Scott H.

I'd believe you Glen. I measured the front end on the '66 with original 6 cylinder springs and they had no measureable sag. The original stuff was darned good. You might find the 620 coils a bit stiff, you can compensate for that with softer shocks.

Before doing mid eye springs, I'd go to a local spring shop and have a set made. I'm not a fan of bending the leaf at the eye. Just a personal opinion.
It will take some time before the springs take their "set", so don't freak out when you put the new leaf springs on, and it looks jacked up.
OK, I had the KYB shocks in mind with the 620's. What do you suggest? I could always stay with the orignal coils and send the 620's back.

I hear you about the Koni's. They are about 250 bux a pair. I may look into the cheaper KYB's. As you well know, I don't have a performance set-up, so maybe those will fill my bill better.

so to get rid of the sag, i need to replace springs and shocks, or just springs,or just shocks? I as well have the sag, not real bad, but it is there, looking for the easy way to mend.
