YEAHHH! NEW ENGINE!
http://www.fordracingparts.com/crate...smallblock.asp the first one(345 hp). I ordered this bad boy today and now I have a problem everything i have is 4 a v-belt and this runs a serpentine belt! I feel so stupid right now...suggestions?
I did this conversion last year.
You will need plugs for the EGR openings in the head. (all 4 of them)
Your Alternator bolt will no longer fit in the head... you will need a reducer for the correct thread size.
You will need a new timing cover. I also recommend getting the timing cover bolt kit from NPD when you do this.
If you intend to keep the mechanical fuel pump, you will need a new double roller timing set. The newer timing set will not allow the cam for the fuel pump.
If you plan to keep the new oil pan, you will need to block off the dipstick hole in the pan.
If you have an automatic, you will need to remove the thrust bearing at the end of the crankshaft before you attempt to mate up your tranny.
Definatley ditch the valve covers and pick up some nice COBRA ones.
Be advised... the documentation shipped with your engine profusely states that there is no oil in the motor. IT IS WRONG! Drain the pan before you flip it on the stand.
If I remember any more I'll post em, but that was all the roadblocks that I ran into with the B303 engine.
C!
EDIT:
I almost forgot! If you want to keep the stock crank pulley, you'll have to get a new harmonic balancer. If I remember correctly the one off of the older 302s was a 28oz and the newer 5.0s (which this one is) need 50oz. NPD carries a 50oz setup for the old style pulley.
If you are running an AUTOMATIC, you will also need to replace your flexplate with a correctly weighted one.
EDIT 2:
Oh, and you will also need a STEEL distributor gear. The spec sheet for your engine will show the ford part number. Summit Racing has them pretty cheap. (I'd make sure your distributor is either freshly rebuilt or new)

I guess if you prefer this:

over this:

It would be a matter of taste...
Personally I'd ditch those stock covers that came with the engine for the COBRA ones in a second. (And I did!)

ya, those are poopy valve covers. The link I clicked on (the one volcom provided) showed polished motorsport or cobra style valve covers, depending on which engine I looked at.
Congrats`!!!
I got mine last year, and I have to say you`re in for a summer of fun!!!!
Clutch pretty much covered your questions.
But you don`t need a new timing set, just a longer stud to go through the excentric wheel that drives the fuel pump.
If you have an old 289/302 you can reuse the timing cover (and the old waterpump, although I would strngly advice you to buy a new highflow one).
If you are lucky you don`t need to buy plugs for the EGR openings. Ford started to include theese with the engine this year.
As Clutch said you need to block off the holes in the oil pan. I suggest you thread the holes and bolt them. You don`t know when you need oil pickup for a supercharger
What intake/carb combo are you planning?
btw heres mine

Im planning on edelbrock rpm performance manifold and 670 cfm holley street advenger. Ok so can some one give me a full rundown of what i can keep, and what i need to run this set up... I have all 289 parts, new t5, all t5 parts. my main thing is the water and timing cover, also the pulleys
As I said in my prev. post, you can re-use timing cover and water-pump from the 289 but you SHOULD buy a new one. You need a clockwice-turn pump for your v-belt assembly. ex this: http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
these kind of pumps fit your old timing cover.
You can use the old pulleys, but you need a new harmonic damper (50 oz imbalance), three or four holes, depending on your 289 pulley.
Btw, with proper tuning of the carb and timing, you will be looking at 370 hp on the flywheel not 345
