Default smoke from dipstick

When my engine is running I have smoke coming from my dipstick and the oil cap. The exhaust smokes a litle but it is not too bad. I have been told it may be my rings or a head gasket. what do you think it may be

Sounds that way to me too.. Exhaust gas's are getting by the rings and into the crank case area.. Time for a tear down..

Soaring...

Let me ask you a question. The 67 I bought for my son also has smoke from the dip stick tube. When I first checked the car out I either didn't notice it or I think the guy may have used honey oil in it when I was checking out the car. Either way, it's mine now and I was wondering if it would be better to have it rebuilt or just get a used one from a salvage yard.

The engine in the car now is not original, so not being a numbers car is not all that important. What do you think?

Thanks,

John

I would overhaul what you have, then when you are finished you will know what you have. You also have the advantage of outting in hard valve seats to accept unleaded gas, and any other upgrade you wish if you want to make the engine more powerful or reliable such as roller rockers, etc. A used engine from a bone yard will most likely be worn out too, so you won't be any further ahead. And, I doubt you can easily find a used one in a bone yard.
