Default 65 fastback fan diameter

I own a 65 fastback (289). I recently found the fan rubbed a gash in the lower rad hose. There is no shroud on it yet, the rad measures exactly 17 & 3/8 inch, there is a 2 inch spacer pushing the fan closer to the rad. My question is what is the correct diameter of fan I should have and once I put a shroud on can I remove the spacer so the fan is not so close to the rad. I think once I remove the spacer and the fan moves back it will clear the hose. Can I get afan that is exactly 17 inchs.

I just measured the fan on my 65 with a 289, and it is over 17 inches in diameter. I also have the 2" spacer. My fan comes no where near my lower radiator hose, so maybe your radiator is not as long as it should be. You can either take your spacer to a machine shop and have it cut down to say a 1" spacer, or look in auto parts places for a shorter one. With a shroud and a shorter spacer, you should be OK. The spacer may be necessary for the blades to clear the engine. Maybe not. I have air conditioning, so I need the 2" spacer to clear the aircon belt.

I have found that when fans start cutting radiator hoses there is a good possibility that the motor mounts are bad. That allows the engine to shift around letting the fan touch the hose. It is worth checking.

put a shord on it the fan needs to be close to the rad to pull air though it, and check the motor mounts

Thanks for the advice, I will check the motor mounts. The previous owner did redo the rad so maybe it is not the correct size. Anybody know what the correct height of the rad should be from top to bottom?

Don't know but it should be sitting almost on the crossmember underneath.
