Default Where to get one

Well after flushing the coolant system and doing everything possible I can't get my 67 to cool off. I'm going to have to get a new 4-row radiator.

What I wanted to ask is where can I get the best deal and what seem to be the best brands and anyother information I would need in making this purchase.
Thanks
It's the middle of April and we have already hit 99 in texas

Hey Padge.
I assume it's a 289?!
Mine had the same problems here in Florida summers. I tried everything, including the 4 row rad.
Turns out it needed a new water pump (but was not leaking!). I replaced mine with a "high flow" unit that runs fine now!
Good luck!
BTW, do NOT order a rad from the discount rad shop in Vegas that advertises a bunch (can't recall the name offhand, but would be glad to find the paperwork if you need) as you will spend tons of fun installing/reinstalling/returning you rad!

Thanks for the advice, it's a 289HiPo

Is there anyway to check the water pump? I might go ahead and look into a high flow pump also

Id do a water pump, thermostat housing, and a new 3 row radiator at least. If you really want to spend then go with an aluminum radiator. Those aluminum radiators will do wonders. Also buy something called water wetter from the parts store. It can lower the temps drastically if you follow the instructions on the bottle.

I do agree with the h2o pump and 3 row, but why the housing? Doesn't make sence to me...but nothing really does anyway.
I would save the $ on an aluminum rad, and I a would be wary of any additives to the water...but that is just me - I'm kind of a wus when it comes to my 39 year old baby!
Good luck.

ps - can't remember where I got mine from. I think it was from some speed shop locally, but most places will carry it - even Discount and such I bet. Also try NPD or some of your favorite classic suppliers. Also, not sure if there is a way to bench test it without expensive tools - def not in the car!

I've actually already replaced the housing when I put in the new thremostat. I couldn't get the old one to seat properly again and kept fighting leaks. New one, no leaks.

My new high flow H2O pump should be in tomorrow. Will it be hard to install? I'm sure it will turn into an ordeal.

Hey Padge. The water pump advice might be valid. I live in Oregon and we went thru this same prob w/ my dads 64 Chevy truck. I had the radiator rodded....they said it was clean! I tried thermos......the old ones tested functional. The guy at the radiator shop said try a water pump so I got a Hi-Cap one . This took me into the cooler seasons by now. See the funny thing is......this truck ran from64 to 78 with plenty of trips back since in the Mojave desert.....Overheating here in OR in ONLY 100!!! Preposterous! Next thing I might do is check the TEMP guage, they can wear out I'm told....GOOD LUCK

Very good point Z...they sure do!
Padge...very straightforward install. You shouldn't have any probs at all. I'de call it only a "2 beer install.)
Make sure you have the propper psi rad cap (think it's 13 psi???) - that will make a diff.
Also, not sure if you have the fan shroud (mine never did), but I have been told that that will help.
Keep us posted on the install, and outcome bud.

A 6 blade fan, a recovery tank, a shroud, and at least a 3 row new radiator. Water Wetter is for real. You can get it at most auto supply stores. Use more water than anti-freeze such as a 30/70 combination. As far as where to get a radiator, I bought mine at Texas Mustang, but they are available at most Mustang supply places. An aluminum radiator and aluminum water pump are for racers. Just a plain old rad and pump will suffice on a street car.
