Fuel Boiling?
Went out and installed the pertronix system on my 289 thisevening and when i started it up it was stronger than it ever was before, really did seem to have a lot more *****. After a bit it started idlin a lil bit rought then eventually wouldnt take gas and quit and wouldnt start back up, yes it has gas and it has spark, could it be the fuel boiling? the carb itself is pretty hot to the touch, any ideas are welcome. oh, and its always done this so i highly doubt that its the pertronix system. and after i let it sit for maybe 20 minutes i can come right back and it will start up and run fine. whooo knows whats goin on here?
I dont have my carb on any spacers just a gasket. Its sitting on a performer intake and it does get hot to the touch but i never had any starting or dying issues with it. I did want to add a spacer, but i needed longer studs and I could only get 3 of them out, was working on number 4 and it wouldn’t budge so I heated up the intake with a torch right at its base then torqued on it some more and then i saw it bend and im like OKAY IM OUT! Gave up and quit while I was ahead.
You can try the spacer but I’m thinking it might not help, how hot does the car get, does the temp gauge read normal? If your driving 65+mph does it still do it?
Does it die smoothly or does it knock/run rough just before it dies?
