Default towing question

I'm looking at buying a either a 68 or 66 coupe w/auto trans. Both of these cars are located about 250mi from where I live.

The only available towing option that I have is with a car dolley. How do I need to tow either of these?

Oh yeah, I will either be pulling it with a 2005 Chevy 4wd Trailblazer or a 2000 single cab Z71 pickup.

Thanks,
Kris

You need to drop the driveshaft

Yeah, you don't want the automatic to be turning while towing it. Either drop the driveshaft, or tow it backwards.

I tried that towing backward thing to keep from having to pull the drive shaft. It works but I dont 'recommend it. With all the weight from the engine in the back the whole rig want's to get really squirly, lots of fishtail. When I did it I ended up turning it around before I got home.

So the best bet is to put it on with the front on the dolley and drop the drive shaft?
How fast should I drive while towing it like this..50-55mph??

I think the dolly says 45 but if the rig feels good I have done 80. 65 is usually safe.

you can also get a car trailer so you dont have to do any of that. ive towed my 66 auto with one from uhaul. it worked great. the fender even folds so you dont bang your door when you get out.

I would do the same, but he said his only option is a dolly. If you drop the driveshaft and pull it from the front, then you will be able to keep up with traffic on the freeway. 45 is a ridiculous speed. You will get your butt run over.

ooops didnt see that. a added suggestion is to tow it with the truck. it will handle it better and you can put the driveshaft in the truck and not worry about getting the carpet dirty in the blazer.
