I am a patient man, but sometimes I get po'd and take drastic measures. My 18 volt DeWalt can take that sucker out in a New Jersey minute. Or, is it a New York Minute? All you yanks and Kali guys have me confused.

I had that problem on my truck when I first got it. I took a really small drill and drilled a hole where the one would be when it is turned. Then I just pushed it in and it came out. I don't know if that would work on a 66 though. My truck is a 70 and it may be different. I know they key styles are.

before you buy all the fancy stuff, i believe that if you take a screwdriver and put it from the negative to the positive terminal on your coil it should fire right up, just use one with a good handle

lol, putting a screwdriver across the coil terminals will get you absolutely nothing........ HEY, next time the car is running, stick a screwdriver around those terminals. make sure you are holding onto the metal part of the screwdriver.

Wiggle it up and down while trying to turn it. If that doesn't work, then it sounds like you either have the wrong key, or the old key/ignition switch are worn out. Don't let it get you down. Order a new switch and a new set of keys to go with the switch. Now, getting the old switch out without the key working will be the problem.
The OEM switches are the biggest POS's. I drove my parents 66 though out college years in the 70's. I once stalled the car at a busy intersection in Berkeley Ca. When I turned the ignition switch to start the beast, it turned 360 degrees with no affect. I ended up pushing it out of the way. Another time (and switch) I turned the ignition switch, the engine started, but when I released the key, the starter continued and would not quit until I removed the battery lead. I had to replace the switch in the 66 at least 3 times.

Does the key unlock both doors? If so, either your ignition lock is frozen, or someone changed the ignition tumbler set. For about $30.00 you can get a complete set that does the two doors and the ignition, using one key. I bought a set for mine, just in case someone still has an original key.

Hey Dennis, you went to Berserkley? That explains everything! Just kidding.

I believe if you take the log out by sticking a paperclip in the small hole under the keyhole. If you have to turn the key at the same time I guess you are screwed.
