Default White Smoke

My car is almost ready to drive and right when i thought it so, white smoke comes from under the hood. All around the valve covers theirs white smoke after its run for awhile. i put on new valve covers with new gaskets and it still smokes. what could be causing this?

Did you make sure all your bolts were torqued to correct pounds? If so, you just need to drive that sucker until all the new paint and oils burn off. No biggie.

white smoke is usually coolant burning....sounds like a head gasket

do a compression test and let us know what the numbers are.

when i run it for a longer time all it does is smoke more. should i run it for longer?

and as for a compression test i have absolutely no tools. im barely able to get things done as it is.

I take it that you are not getting any white smoke coming from the rear of the car out of the exhaust pipes. If that is so, then you need to let the engine idle in the garage or out on the driveway and see exactly where the smoke is coming from. Wait about 10 minutes or so to see if it clears. But, keep an eye on your temp gauge and your oil pressure gauge to make sure they are up to par during this burning process.

blow by maybe? but if you do have a freshly rebuilt engine then it probably is just paint burning off

Had the same problem on 2 different cars. First one had a crack in the exhaust manifold. Other car had an A/C freon leak.
