Default Clutch Pedal Adj.

Is there a way to adjust the height of the clutch pedal? Mine seems to be approx. 2-3 above the break pedal. Makes it a little difficult to drive, as you have to raise your knee so high to completely release the pedal and remove your foot from it. Seems as though adjusting underneath would not do it. Any suggestions?

Yeah, you can adjust your clutch pedal. On my 65, the adjustment is right below the master brake cylinder. If yours is like my 65, you will see where the clutch pedal arm comes out of the firewall and is attached with two nuts. Turn the front nut toward the front of the engine, then tighten up the back nut. Now, don't go too far because you will wear out your clutch plate faster. It would be like riding the clutch. You will be able to feel just how far to go. Just be aware that your clutch pedal will still be slightly higher than your brake pedal even when adjusted perfectly.

Bringing up a dead thread but i have a similiar problem. Sticks out way too far, i've been tinkering with adjusting the clutch pedal arm and the nuts. First time i looked at it there wasnt any nuts on the arm, so i added one to the front.

So heres my problem, Pedal seems to be sticking out way to far, couple inches of just free play and the return spring likes to pop making it really hard to let clutch out slowly.

Soaring save me so i dont keep looking like an idiot leaving a stop light.

There has to be some free play so that the clutch is totally engaged. However, more than a few inches can be too much as you have described. Your clutch plate may be worn to the point to where any further adjusting will not give you any more grab than you already have. If you have turned the front nut toward the front of the engine bay as far as it will go and still leave you an inch or so of free play, and your pedal is still to high ( more than a few inches) from your brake pedal, then you may need a clutch overhaul.

What i've been doing is turning the rod counterclockwise, i cant get a grip on the bolt but by turning the rod it pulls the block closer to the rear of the engine, allowing me to tighten to bolt. By doing this it gives me more free play but pushes the engagment point closer to the floor which avoids the harsh return springs pop. I know i cant tighten it too far or else the clutch wont properly disengage. Here are some pictures.

Freeplay Start
Freeplay End
The Rod, Block and Nut

I dont know if this little Timeline helps. Its of letting out the clutch

Disengaged[------------Grabs------Spring Pops--Complety engaged------Freeplay Starts-----------------------------Ends] Engaged

It is a new clutch So i know its not the clutch. My main guess is the return spring is weird because it gives medium resistance then gives extreme resistance when letting out, then enters freeplay. I also assume the freeplay is because the rubber stopper is missing, i will check if the rubber stopper is there.

EDIT: Just checked, couldnt find a rubber stopper, where is it spose to be?

My clutch pedal is about 1/2 inch below even with the brake pedal...don't know if that is correct distance or not...

Call me stupid but I thought the height of the pedal was dictated by the rubber stoper on the brace. The pedal in the up position should be on the stopper. All of the adjustments in the linkage should only be for adjusting free play. If the pedal is too high wouldn't that be due to a missing or worn stopper? Am I wrong?
