Most carbureted motors need a lil squirt of gas on first start up to run. Unlike the EFI you cant jus expect to barely bump the starter and it start right up and purr every mornin.

No, its fine. Crabs tend to do that. Even a brand new Holley or Edelbrock will require this because the gas will evaporate out of the in take if the car sits a while.

You will learn just how many times you need to pump the gas pedal for the best start. Mine takes two full pumps, then I still have to pump it a few more times after the engine starts to get it running smooth without dying.

The owners manual even says to pump it a few times and hold it at a certain position to get it started.

Yeah, but you know good and well that all carbureted engines have their own individual quirks. It's a matter of trial and error.

Glen,

As you said, I think every car is different. I've got a Holley 4B on mine and she requires 3 full pumps and will start EVERY time. Then give her a little gas and she's ready to go.

There ya go....as I said, they are all different. That's what makes them so special, and why most of us Mustangers won't let others drive our cars because of the quirks.
