Default Charging system

1970...... Will driving home last night...head lights started going dim and things died as pulling into drive. Rplaced alternator, but still not charging (12.44 volts going to battery) Now....hind sight being as keen as it is.....I will replace the cheaper portion of the charging system. (The Voltage Regulator) although it looks in good shape. I don't believe there is any other possibility is there? All wires look good and no loose connections. Plus it ran good before being stored.

Could be the battery. I think the Autozone can load test that for you before you buy it.

The best advice I think I have ever received by a mechanic was to automatically replace the Voltage Regulator when replacing the Alternator. Give that a try.
