Default Carb question

Well this isn't for my Mustang but I thought you guys could help. I have a '72 Ford 2 ton grain truck with a 360 HD and a shot Holley 2 BBL carb that I've tried to rebuild twice.

Anyone know where I can get a cheap carb that would fit this application?

Go to your local junkyard and get an autolite carb. A carb off any old Ford big block will work.

If its the FE series 360, then pick up a 4 barrel intake for it and slap on a 650 holley. It might even pick up a bit of mileage.. lol.

If you want a huge engine for it, I have a rebuilt dumptruck engine sittin here, not sure what CI, but the thing is ENORMOUS and gas as opposed to diesel. I might take a pic with the Cleveland and Windsor next to it later for comparison.. lol.

Ford made a 534, 477, and 401 Super Duty truck engine. Not an engine for performance, but a low revving torque montser. I think they maxed out on tourque at like 1600RPM and weigh around 1000 pounds.

Yeah, it's the FE series. I think the engine is still good, but now you got me thinking about that 4 barrel.

How much would an new intake and a matching 4 barrel set me back and where do I look? I hate to put much $ in this thing.

I haven't had much luck with my local salvage yards... they seem to want new prices on everything! Sheez!

The 360 is the same engine as the 390, so an intake would work off of it.

i know that they redesigned the blocks for the FE's to get the bigger bores but i dont know if it changed the intake size, but ive got a cast iron intake off of my 428 cj. not sure if it would fit though.

All along I thought this was a 360... it's actually a 361. I don't know if that changes anything as far as carbs go.

It wouldn't really change anything as far as carbs go. The 361 and 391 were heavy duty truck engines. Used mainy in the big cab over jobs and dump trucks and stuff like that. They had a steel crank also. Cammed to be Low revving and high tourque.
