H pipe VS. X pipe
While I am changing out my mufflers, I was thinking about adding a H or X pipe to my exhaust system and was wondering what some of you think about the H & X pipes; which one is the way to go?
BTW the application is for a built 289 w/headers.

The X will give you a better air flow. And, that is what you are looking for. However, there is a slight difference in the sound of the two. I have the H on my 65 289 for the deeper sound with my ravin mufflers, but if you are into serious horsepower, the X pipes are definitely your better choice.
X-pipe is the better as far as performance (neither H or X give a big change in street vehicles, only a small one). I think ground clearence and room around the transmission are the big issues when using an X pipe because the two exhaust pipes run together at one point.
The X will give you a MINOR HP + over the H but the H sounds a little deeper. I went with the H on my car because it'll never be raced so the 1-2 HP that the X would give wasn't enough to matter.
Oh, and Glen, don't rear this next statement. . . . . I have the Flowmaster Series 40 with the H and it sounds GREAT!!! LOL

X pipe is like 7-10Hp more than the H pipe. Go X if you are going to change.
