Default Filter Fitment

So I am almost done the 351W swap on my 68 coupe. I have one problem though. I have a 71 351W with a 2 Barrel carb and the spacer that came from the factory. I need to find a filter housing that will fit under the hood. I could not find a 2 Barrel application in the FAQ section. Is it possible for me to mill some off that spacer without it affecting the heat? I have the cast iron intake on it so it will hold heat alot longer then an aluminum unit. Any help is appreciated.

How about exchanging the stock spacer with a phenolic one that is thinner. It would block heat and allow for more room. You could basically make the thing yourself. It's about like working with wood.
Just a thought.
They also make what is called a "drop base" air filter base. It sits lower than the the top of the carb body.
Any chance you can change the mounts to get the motor a little lower in the engine compartment?
Good luck,

Scott

In the old days, guys would just cut a spacer out of 3/4 inch plywood. Worked great.
If the 65 engine mounts will hook up to the 351, they are lower than the 66 I know, and probably lower than the 68 too.
