Default 67 -68?

ok, so i decided to spread my horizons, i have a week exactly left today before i graduate highschool, and i am going to buy a mustang right after, i have been looking at 67 and 68's, and im not 100% certain, but are they not the same dimensions? i like the 68 shelby front end, bumpers headlight buckets and hood. and i was wondering it that would also fit on a 67? would it fit or am i wrong?

The 67 and 68 are pretty much the exact same car. The 68's have side marker lights, they have a different side scoop design, a little bit different grille design, and a little bit different dash look, but overall, you've got to know your details to tell them apart.

i would get a 67. For some reason i dont like the 68's. Maybe it's the steering wheel changes, side marker lights, etc. In that year they started thinking more about safety..... well thats a good thing, but i just like 67's. I have a 67 vert. nice car. my cousin has a 68 coupe. i like the 67 better, but it has everything imaginable.... well, except the Hipo 289.

other than the mentioned marker lamps and reflectors, the grilles and grille trim is very different, as for the quarterpanel ornaments, the 67 has a pair of fake vents per side while the 68 has a chrome strip. As for the interior, only the dash pad, carpet and headliners are the same, the seats only have seat brackets in common, the steering wheels are different, even the steering colum is different.

when was in high school I had a '68 Loved it. After a wild night, wrecked it. got a '67 and still have it. I liked the '68 much better. Maybe because it was my first I don't know. The fake side scoop deal isn't as sweet as the lil strip on the '68 in my opinion. I do know from experience that if you are planning on putting the Shelby hood on the '68 you are gonna have to get new fenders as well. Just the hood will not mount up. I bought just the hood and had to return it. Good Luck and Happy remodeling.

I have to love the 67's (since I have one), but for a daily driver the 68 would be a better choice. Remember Glen's motto - safety first, performance second, looks third (or something like that). The 68's (I believe) all had side marker lights (better visibility to others at night), and all had three-point seat belts standard (someone correct me on this if I'm wrong...). These two things alone improve daily driver safety significantly without having to do any mods. Of course, you can mod any 67 for better safety, but on a high-school grad's budget (which also means, possibly, maybe, hopefully, a college freshman's budget), the 68 may be a better choice off the block. With either one, however, you're gonna love it! Good luck!

(IMO) both are beautiful true "Muscle cars", and you won't go wrong either way. They are the first years of the Mustang being a true "Muscle Car". I'd look for which one in the best shape, and needs the least work.
Like Roarin67 said, hopefully highschool grad budget turns into college student budget (which won't be much after beer money ).

Good luck!

thats actually what i wanted to do if i get a 68, i knew about the other pieces but not about the fenders until now, thanks!

either way, i am looking for a coupe in pretty good shape around my area, i knwo of a few, and since today was my last day of school, i am going to go check all the ones around me tomarrow. this search would be easier if my dad would sell me his 71 we restored, but o well, time for me to get a car to fix up all summer and through college and after.
