Default 67 Carb Problem 2v help?

Hi guys, just bought my new 67 and am trying to get it running. I plan on rebuilding the engine over the winter but i just want to get it running for now.

Its got the 2v carb and it starts then immediately dies. It will stay running if i have someone else hit the key and i keep spraying eather (sp?) into the carb. It has new Spark plugs, wires, points, cap all that. And I have taken the carb off and cleaned it twice any ideas on whats up with this carb? thanks guys.

Sounds like you are not getting any gas into the carb. Take the line off at the carb and crank her over. If you have gas coming out the line, then you may have a stuck float in the carb. Put the line back on and give the sides of the carb a good whack with the handle of a screwdriver to see if you can free the float. If you are not getting gas out of the line, then check the fuel filter. If that is OK, then you probably have a bad pump.

I know the carb is getting gas, if i take off the top plate and hit the throttle i can see both the jets squirting fuel. Everything looks to be working right, i have messed with the mixture screws a ton now but i'd think even if they are outta wack it would still run.

Is your choke closed when you first start it?

choke isnt hooked up, i am holding it while its cranking... but even if the choke wasnt u'd think starting it and holding the throttle would keep it running, if running crappy.

When i rebuild the engine i'm going with a four barrel so i'd hate to buy a 2 barrel just to have the engine run for a month or 2.

I need it running because my 66 chevy is completed and in the garage i want to be able to switch the cars on nice days and work on the mustang in the garage, instead of just in the driveway.

When you cleaned the carb, did you make sure the main jets and idle circuits are not gummed closed using compressed air? I don't know how long it sat before you got it, but this could be part of the problem.

At any rate, you have a carburetor problem. I get frustrated trying to figure out what is wrong with carburetors after I overhaul them, so sometimes just call it a day and go get a professionally overhauled carb.

Thanks for all the replies guys.... yeah i used about a can of carb cleaner and my air compressor to clean the sucker up but no go.... today is only my third day having the car and the first day it hasnt rained all day... i took a look under the front end and..... well everything needs replacing so i am not gonna worry about the carb anymore i need to rip out the engine and replace the floor boards, torque boxes, and the frame rails.... basically every piece of metal in the front end. One of the previous owners already replaced the metal in the back end and actually did a real clean nice job but whoever did the front... they used aluminum for the floor boards and the frame rails arent even attached.

Anyways my new question is where is the best (i.e. cheapest) place to get metal for these cars? Floor boards and frame rails and such. I have notice their are tons of places to buy parts but has anyone bought this stuff for their rebuild? know some quality places that wont break the bank? Thanks again guys.

You want to stay away from the cheapest metal body parts guys. They are made in China and don't fit. The best body parts place IMO is National Parts Depot. http://www.npdlink.com/

Ill tell you right now STEER away from mustangs unlimited. NPD has a pretty good rep though. Look in the faq for many more vendors.
