Default I opened a can of worms

Not just a can of worms, but one of those damn cans that you open and the snakes come flying out. I really enjoy working on my mustang though. I just wanted to re-paint the 68 and while prepping ran into a few obstacles. I'm sure I will find more. I have been working on her since the weather started to get nice. Looks like an all summer project now. I still have to replace the rear passenger frame rail and passenger side torqe box. Not very many mustangs in AK so I admit I was anxious when I bought this one. Next one I buy is definately going to meet my magnet and creeper! See what I have done so far by clicking on the link.Mike's 1968 Mustang

its all part of the job. mine is at the bodyshop getting media blasted. this is the worst part because i dont know how much bondo is actually underneath. i estimated this project at 2500, now its up to 8000. 8000 because i want to do so many new things to it i hadnt thought i would before.

On a positive note, I didn't see one bit of rust on that nicely worked over hood!
Looks like a wonderful way to enjoy the "Great outdoors". Good luck and don't get carried away by any of those man eating mosquitos!

the "gotta get ALL the rust" mentality plagues me, too. watch out or it will end up like my car. all thats left are the rockers, rear frame rails, quarters and roof.

i really like the two-tone dash. i dont think ive seen one like that before, mines black/black. i like the idea of using a screw to hold your patch panels too. ill definately be trying that this weekend of my bro's car. maybe i wont burn my self anymore.

It will eventually come together. Just keep at it. Nice looking interior.

Thanks for the encouragment guys.

I work on her several hours a day. I cut all the rust out and welded a panel onto the fender and got her looking nice. I really like that MIG versus flux core. I think it would be impossible without MIG. The paint on top of the car (hood, fenders and roof) was severely pocked. I don't know if was a reaction to something when they paited it last or if was caused by rust. I'm having to strip the paint down to the original green and in some placed down to the metal due to surface rust. The hood had ten million pits from rust. I primed, puttied and primed again. I have been using naval jelly on the rust. I need to check into that POR stuff, I guess it is a lot easier to use. I bought a straight line sander on e-bay. That is a life saver! I have a think for straight panels and that will surely help. I will post more pics as things progess. I guess I had better get busy and set up a pic gallery here as well.

yeah,
flux core is very difficult to use for patch panels. it looked as if you were trying to run beads along the edges of the metal in your pics. you may want to only use a lot of little tack welds to avoid warpage of the sheet metal. have fun.
