Quick Help...proper placement for hog nose rings?
We begin installing upholstery on the back seat of the stang about 30 mins ago. Confused on where those rings are suppose to attach w/o tearing the material. THere is a plastic edge which I thought the rings would go around and then clamp around the metal on the seat frame. However, the material begins to tears when this is done. Are the rings to go into the plastic itself and not thru the material? See the pic for the hog ring placement I have already done...Thanx in advance....

You've got the right idea. Either that material is too thin, too cheap or you are pulling too hard. You can see where even the stitching holes are tearing. The vinyl should be bonded to a cloth with a very tight weave. This is what keeps the vinyl from stretching and tearing. If you only have vinyl with no cloth backing, either someone screwed up, or it is awefully cheap stuff.
What does the back side of the material look like?

Scott...the vinyl has the cloth backing and I am able to place the rings in other locations in the same manner w/o any tearing...I must have stretched it toooooo tight. Other option is to place the rings in the flat part of the plastic but don't know how well that will hold...
It's tearing away from the stitching holes, so I think no matter where you place the hog ring it's going to tear. I'd sew a patch of heavy cotton cloth inside the torn area. Make it just a little longer and double it over a plastic beading. Then put your hog ring through that. I've also had good luck by using a heat gun to warm up the whole cover so it would stretch easier before installing it.
To be honest, I still don't like the way that stretched away from the seam. Looks like a less expensive grade of material, but it could just be the picture.
90% of what I have done has been factory replacement covers, which are pretty high quality.

Soaring...thanx...we were goin' to use the dryer on these covers but Wednesday is laundry nite for me and the son so the dryer was being used. However, it was still kinda warm outside so it wasn't much of a struggle getting these on. May just set the front one out in the heat this weekend since it is suppose to get up to the 90's here...we'll see....
Yeah, we are supposed to get that 90 + degree stuff here in central Texas this weekend too. I am going to a wedding tomorrow and have to wear a suit. I won't be comfortable, because my daily wear is jeans and T-shirts.
BTW, you can get out the wrinkles after you installl the covers with a hair dryer. That takes place just before you stretch the cover for the last time before putting on the hog rings.
On edit: Be sure you get the new foam pads for the front seats.
