Easter color??
A friend of mines husband has a salmon colored mustang sitting in the shed behind their house. All she knows about it is that its color is Easter something. Is this correct? I've never seen one this color.
what you are refering to is the color of rainbow edition mustangs introduced in 1968.Not much is known about the Rainbow Colors promotion. Rainbow Color Mustangs were sold in the San Jose and Los Angeles Districts, and also possibly in the Seattle District. This promotion took place thoughout the years of 1968 and 1969. Rainbow Mustangs were well-advertised and listed color such as Madagascar Orange, Whipped Cream, Spanish Gold, Dandelion Yellow, Hot Pink, Caribbean Coral, Forest Green, Sierra Blue, and Moss Green.
The Denver sales district had a "color of the month" promotion in the first four months of the 1968 calendar year. January was Black Hills Gold, February was Passionate Pink (not the same as Playboy Pink), March was Emerald Green, and April was Eastertime Coral. It's very possible that your friend has an Eastertime Coral car. What year is the car, and what is your location?
These were treated as special order paints with a blank paint code on the door warranty plate. See here for more info: http://www.geocities.com/~mustangs68/paint-prmo.html

OK, what I know is they got it as a present from her father-in-law when their daughter was born. Her daughter was one grade ahead of my brother who was born in 1969, so I'm guessing 1968 is a good bet. And they moved here from Durango Colorado, so again, I think Denver is another good bet. Her husband hated the color and rarely drove it but hung on to it as a present for thier daughter. Well, the daughter never wanted to drive "that ugly car" so it just sits in the shed hoping a grandchild will drive it.
I'm guessing its a 1968 Mustang in Eastertime Coral. Is there a lot of them out in the Midwest then?
Oh and did it only go for the 4 above mentioned mths or did the color of the month go all year to make 12 custom colors out there? That would be a cool collection to have huh?

From what little I can find on the Denver "Color of the Month" 1968 promotion, it appears it only lasted those four months. And as with any special order color, they are very uncommon. The colors were meant to correspond to the holiday of each month:
January / Black Hills Gold for New Year's (I guess)
February / Passionate Pink for Valentine's Day
March / Emerald Green for St. Patrick's Day
April / Eastertime Coral for Easter.
One site claims "it is estimated that only ten of these cars were built each month". So even if your friend's family doesn't like the color, it is very unique!

Does unique mean deformed monkey face elephant man or does it mean Hope diamond??? If nobody wanted it then, why would they want it now. I'm tellin ya, its not that attractive a colour.
and sdgrant, thanks for the info!

LOL, what the heck am I gonna do? Hum the Mission Impossible theme song while I sneak across their lawn, do some tuck and rolls, run away from their dog screaming and take the pic through the shed window?? [:-]
Let me ask my friend and I'll see if I can get a pic.
You mean no one here but me has actually seen this color car???

If only ten or so were ever made, it's very likely that no one here has ever seen one. I had a co-worker several years ago that may have had an Emerald Green (March) car, but I never actually saw it. If you can provide any more info or pics about this exampe, it would be very interesting for all of us! If possible, get a picture of the driver's door warranty plate and an outdoor shot of the car. If it's in good shape, it might make an interesting project for someone.
