Restoring a 66 Coupe. Go with original colors or change.
I am restoring my 66 coupe. It is Wimbledon White with Standard Red Bench interior. Will it affect the value if I change the color? I like the white with red combination, however, I like a cobalt blue with white stripes too. I know it's my car to do as I please, but is it better to keep the factory colors and options value wise or say heck with it and do what you want. It's only money. The data plate is intact and the car is probably 90% original. I will be going back with the original look but some of the parts will be aftermarket. Interior, a couple body patch panels and the like. Structurally and the drivetrain are all original. I'll probably get new aftermarket exterior things too like signals, emblems, etc.

well in my opinion it is your car and you are free to do as you please, but at the same time im all about original, and to me if the car is fairly uncommon, than i strive to keep it as original as possible. In your case it looks like you have not really a rare car, but an uncommon one, and who know how many of your car came with a bench seat and white paint, it could be one of one. Un-popular colors such as lime gold, owners tend to want to change to a more dare i say "presentable" color, so if white isnt for you, than do it up in your own flavor
Thanks for the input. I am at a quandry over it. I like all original, or at least as I described what I have. The white is not all the bad and the Wimbledon is a creamy color and not like snow white. The car has American Racing Centerlines so the "old man syndrome" does not look so bad, the white I mean. And I believe the red is classic in the white. A red bench in white, like you said, how many like that I wonder. Although not rare, odd I believe. Thanks to all who add input or to the poll!

The value of the car goes down if you change things like that.
However if you're not planning on selling it, it really doesn't matter.
Go with what you want, its your car.

1967 Lime Gold (unpopular)

2006 Legend Lime Metallic
I agree that the color was unpopular back in the 60's and into the following decades. Heck, my '67 was originally Lime Gold. When that color is new...man, it is nice. But as it ages, it looks downright dreadful. Interesting that Ford brought it back. From what I understand, the color is quite popular.
i'm in that same dilema. my A-code 66 is also wim white but with blue interior. I really love the silver blue color that these cars did come in and thought about painting it that color. you really have to ask yourself why you bought the car? for it's nostalgia, racing, etc. etc. who isn't tempted by all of the latest greatest things for these cars? i admit, it's hard not to purchase a set of big wheels. i think i'll stay stock for now.
