Default POR 15 undercoating

I had my floors done recently and need to do some rocker repair now. The guy who did my floors thinks its best to wire brsuh then paint the frame rails, new floors, gas tank and just about everything with POR15. Its pretty clean underneath, but thinks its a good idea to paint with POR15 to avoid future rust. Is this a good idea, or does it make the car look like the undercarriage has issues to a casual observer? Also, I know the stuff is pretty glossy... Is it best to use this stuff as precaution or not?

Thanks!

If the frame rails are currently just bare metal, get it as clean as possible first. I'd suggest an angled grinder, not a wire brush on a drill becuase it will "walk" away. Either that or a mouse sander with 36 grit paper. After getting it clean, then you can undercoat it. If it already has old undercoating on it, then the easiest thing to do is take a heat gun to it to soften it, then a scraper to take it off.

U can use the POR15 if you like which is really good, but I like a cheaper version from JCWhitney.com which is about 16 bucks for a gallon, which can do the complete underside of your car. I wouldnt worry about the gloss, soon as you get ti on the road, the dust will make it dull anyways. Im not sure about the POR15 but the Whitney kind is brush on, which keeps it cleaner instead of that spray can crap....

Good stuff, thank you for the help. the car has no undercoating today, it is original.

The POR 15 was designed to stop rust, not to cover metal to prevent rust, but I guess it will work. I would just get it really clean than use red oxide.

as of today i know 2 guys who are using rhino lining for the under carrage (plus myself when i can afford it. one's on a 67 shelby, second resto (first was just interior and motor/trans rebuild, this one's 100% resto) and the other is a 68 gt. not a bad idea all the way around to flat out prevent rust and poo like that, but i don't know the price tag yet. also, if you are looking to sell the car, i wouldn't really bother doing too much more than you have to.

I always thought that would be a good idea but didnt know if anyone has actually got the lining. Must be nice!

Since my interior is completly gutted, Im thinking of grinding the floor to bare metal and then using that 15, what do you think?

see, you have to realistically look at how long you expect to have/what to have the car. if you want to take it to the grave with you, than it would be worth it to have it rhino lined, if you're just looking to get a quick fix and sell her, go with the POR 15. either way that stuff wouldn't hurt.
