Default Anti Freeze????

Hi guys im finally done repairing my chaincover, and waterpump. I have re-installed it all today with new gaskets all around...now im having an issue on anti freeze...The old man who repaired my radiator says anti-freeze will screw up my coolent system and eventually engine because of the acids inside of the liquid...i live in sunny southern california were its never really cold, thats why the old man says i dont need it...then i have other people saying hes nuts and i should run 50/50...what do you guys think?..what do you guys use in your pony's?, and what do you guy's recommend?..thanks

anti freeze also helps your water stay cooler. it also has stuff to prevent rust. not stop it, but prolong it. go with a 30%/70% mix

Anti freeze will not only lower the freezing point but it will raise the boiling point allowing you to run hotter without over heating.

filters. i don't know the exact name of them, but they are cone shaped and you put them in by your rad hoses and they filter out and flakes or rust from the fluid. and i don't care where you live, if you aren't using anti freeze, you're nuts, no offense/

Yeah, the normal mix is 50/50, but in your case a 30/70 would be good. Ask the old man that if anti-freeze was so bad, then why do all cars have anti-freeze in them? That's ludicrous.

just curious as to why you use distilled. is there a special reason why it is better?

and ponyboy, you can check you local parts store for the filter, if not here's a link for Gano radiator filters

That is why they call it "COOLANT", and not "Anti-Freeze". Glycol (ingredient) is used in hospitals and all kinds of mechanical heating and cooling systems. It helps disipate(sp) heat as well as freeze protection. So, with only water, distilled, filtered, or tap, what do you think it will do...not rust? Don't be stupid! (Nothing personal) Now, however, there are some aluminum engines, motorcycles in particular, that need a special kind of coolant with additives to prevent corroding. My wife has a Honda (and it's ok next to my Harley cause its a goodin!) and it (of coarse, mfg) recomends certain COOLANT.
