Default Need to replace a steering wheel. Help!!

I have a 67 fastback with a 68 steering wheel. Although the padded wheel looks good, I would prefer the original look of the 67 wheel. How much work is involved in removing this wheel? I can't find any procedure on how to do it. If someone knows of something, please point me to it. When I removed the emblem from the front of the pad, there appears to be just a single recessed bolt holding it on. Do I really need a puller??

A puller is the best way not to damage the shaft. Some parts stores loan tools, but it isn't an expensive tool to buy. The other method is to back the nut off flush with the shaft. Use pressure from your knee under the wheel and pull on the top at the same time while striking the nut with a hammer. It should pop loose. Be careful not to flare the end of the shaft.

Thanks. You are correct about the loaning of tools by auto parts stores. I found that Autozone does loan out tools like this, free!! If anyone else has had personal experience removing a 68 steering wheel, feel free to chime in.

i did, u prob wont wanna do it that way though.

i took off the pad, and theres the big nut....i took off the little horn thing, then got a wrench to take off the nut, i took a little league baseball bat and pried the wheel off after budging it a little bit by tapping it firmly with the bat.....very firmly, not quite violently though. It came right off after that.

Thanks. Are you saying do not use the wheel puller? I am not sure if I have a bat So it was just the single bolt and it comes off.
Curious why you removed the horn ring first.

well, on my wheel, all u had to do was twist it of fand it came off....and that allowed me clearance to get to that big nut that holds the wheel on........i didnt have a big enough socket so i just used a cresent wrench after taking off the horn ring.

Mine came off rather easily. in fact too easily. in fact, while i was driving.

So i'm guessing it can't be too hard to get one off...
