Default Coupla questions

First post here. Picked up a 67 Mustang (289) coupe a week ago and would like to make a few modifications.
1. 4 bbl carb
2. intake
3. dual exhaust (just a little rumble)

I'm thinking no more than 600 cfm on the carb but would like some input on brand of carb and exhaust system.
Also would like some input on getting rid of the smog pump and associated crap.

Thanks
Dave

If the engine is stock I would use a dual plane intake like a performer or an old F4B. I like the 600 Holley with vacuum secondaries, but i am sure a lot these guys will tell you to use an Edlebrock carb. It's a remake of the old Carter AFB.

If you remove the smog pump you have to plug the holes in the exhaust ports.

Yeah Tyler, I have grown tired of telling everybody how great the Ravin mufflers are. Nobody seems to believe me.

actually, I am hooked on ultraflows. I personally HATE flowmasters. I had them on the 86 for a week and I could not use my cell in the car....

We just completed a 2bl to 4bl conversion on our 65. Went with a 500cfm Edelbrock vacum secondaries and a performer intake with JBA shorty headers and H pipe. Don't forget the Pertonix ignition update. Search Mustang Monthly under carb updates. Good info there.

Did you get the Performer or the Performer RPM intake?

I went with the performer for 2 reasons. The dyno tests they did on a stock 289 didn't show a big diff. I mean unless you start working on the ignition and the exhaust it wasn't worth it.
