Default Rear end question

These are the numbers that are on the rear end:

WEB BC3 6BB
2.75 9 844D

What do these numbers mean, and is this a 9" rear end?

Thanks!

WOW! I'll bet it is a slug at launch, but great on the highway.

It would launch a little bit better have slightly better acceleration and your highway cruising RPMS would be ever so slightly higher. Personally Id go with something around the 3.20-3.30 range, whatever the ratio is for the 9", it would have way better launch and still be very highway friendly. Most drag racers will tell you to go with something way steeper like a 3.50 or 3.75, thats good for a drag car but not for a street driven vehicle, in my opinion anyway.

If youre going to change the gear, at least change enough to tel the difference, if you are using a trans with a 1:1 final ratio[not an overdrive] then you will wnat to stay with something like a 3.23 to a 3.73 ratio. it will give a much better launch and not kill the highway speed

In a drag race, let's say you have one car that is equal to the other except for the gears in the rear and one has a 3 speed and the other has a 4 speed. The 3 speed has a 280 and the other has a 410. The 410 will certainly launch much quicker, but the one with the 3 speed and 280 gears won't have to shift as soon, so will catch the 410 4 speed guy. Well after the 1/8 mile it is all over. The 410, 4 speed guy will get to the 1/4 mile marker quicker, but at less MPH than the guy with the 3 speed 280 gears. MPH is not the determining factor in winning a race. It's who gets there faster. Torque is the determining factor here, not HP. So, if you are into drag racing, then go with a 4 speed (or a 3 speed auto) with smaller gears in the rear. But, if you are driving your car on the street and highway only, then stay at 355's or lower. I have 280's in my 65 with my 289 and 3 speed. It serves my purposes quite well, and gives me a fun and powerful ride for a street car.

Thanks everybody for the info. I have a 351C with a C6 and I think I am going to go with 3.73. I think that will be a good combination...
