Default charging ?'s

if i take the negative battery cable off while the car is running & it keeps running does this mean that my alternator is working/functioning properly?

yeah. Scott had a conversation with me a long time ago. Never remove a cable with the car running. He said it can explode, and cause serious injury.

You don't want to take any of the battery cables off the battery while the engine is running. To check if the alternator is working, take it off and take it to a parts place to have it checked.

If you dont want to take it off you can use a voltmeter, at 2500 rpm's voltage readings should range between no less than 13.5V and no more than 15.5V. Reving it up to 2500 rpm's puts the alt. under load which is what the bench tester at an auto parts store does, so either way will work.

I really tried to stay away. You know, do my part to help cleanse the gene pool a bit

You two have pretty much covered it. Bad for the car, bad for your body.

Just say know...ledge.
