Thats the ticket!! This is what I'm doing, I have right now a C4 with 3:55's in the rear. I do about 2700 at 55 mph.. I'm installing an AOD in the next month or so when I install my new built up 289. Then the RPM at 55 should be at around 1700..

ORIGINAL: Soaring

For the best of both worlds, get an AOD. 325's are not all that much of a gear over the stock 3.0 's......

What does a decent AOD cost?

I got a re-manufactured one that will support up to 350 - 400 hp delivered for $600.

Slickman where did you find that at? I will be looking at getting one when i change out my gears. AT the moment, i do 60 at 2300. That's with 2.80 gears, and ill probably go with 3.25's

wow... all the prices I had found for an AOD were just too high so I decided to skip it but at that price it would save that much in gas within a reasonable amount of time.

Nah i cant go Automatic, its just morally wrong for me, and a tranny swap right now is'nt sometin i have time or $ for.

So For all your final suggestions do you think 2.73's or 3.00's will help get me closer to better cruising rpms. Once again i'm running 3k rpm at 60mph with 3.25 gears. And will upgrade my 302 with a 351 eventually. Thank you again.

Yeah, stay with the 4-speed. MY car has 2.78's with a 4speed and 289. It does really good out on the highway. I don't have a tach so I'm not really sure, but Id say 2000-2500 at around 60. Not really much at all. I don't think it lugs it down too much either. It will still light the tires up from a stop.
