Ex-mechanic/bodyman. I got certified so long ago they didn't call it ASE they called it NIASE. National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.

I was even more basic, after spending 30 years tinkering on my mustang; I was bound to learn a few things. And when I did not know the answer, I had to find someone who did.

This forum makes it allot easer to find out an answer to a question/problem, more so then it was before the internet.

Cheers.....[sm=icon_cheers.gif]

I was a class "B" mechanic for some time when I was much younger and been fooling with muscle cars for 30 years.

blow lots of stuff up in the name of testing. I do laot of off-beat stuff. Everyone just follws everyone else which is pretty damn boring with no challenge.

I am not a mechanic.
I do not play one on TV.
I have not learned from my mistakes.

But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express.

Ive been tinkering with stuff ever since I was about 5years old, took apart my first bicycle. Since then went to motorcycles, then cars at 13. I just couldnt believe that people drive these tin cans everyday and NOT know how they work. Blows my mind. Anyway, I learned most of it out of neccessity, when I got my first car (79 5.0 Ghia sport), it needed a lot of work. So I got a service manual and taught myself how to fix it. Im a certified tech now. Im planning on opening my own shop within the next 5 years...... Gotta save up the $$$ first. Itll mainly be a repair facility, but we'll offer custom stuff too.

I learned enough to get started at a base hobby shop. Most of what I've learned recently has been through books and the internet. You would be amazed what you can do by carefully reading instructions. (I know instructions are for sissies. )
