Default Trunk - before and after

I couldn't resist buying a matching spare wheel from Scott Drake. They make the best SS wheels. Anyway, just sharing. By the way, the old spare rim wasn't even off an original Mustang that's why I changed it.

Lookin' good Matt. I see you are a devotee of originality as well as I am with that trunk liner. What's up with Firestone these days? Ya know they were putting out junk a few years back, and had several law suits about separation of the treads from the steel belts. Are they back on track?
On edit: You know you can get a spare tire cover that will match your trunk liner don't you? It sure cleans up the looks of your trunk area.

I chucked the felt backed trunk liner that the PO had in there for an original heavy duty rubber backed liner. It really fits nice and doesn't move around like the other one.

I'm definitely partial to originality albeit mine is not in 100% original fashion but fairly close. I like to keep it looking factory or with dealer optioned correct parts that could have been purchased at the Ford dealer.

Firestone is in a real sad state of affairs. There is a Firestone plant here in Noblesville that used to be one of the largest employers in town. It looks like a mini ghost town now. They really screwed up w/ the Explorer. The Firestone tires on my 65 are from the PO. They will be replaced with some Coker dual redline radials some day.

I didn't think that spare covers were offered in 65? Anyway, now I really like the look of the tire and wheel exposed. suppose it's personal preference.

Here is a pic of the spare tire cover I got from Texas Mustang. It fits well, and matches the trunk liner. I have my trunk area all torn up with painting it and adding a new wiring harness, so can't give you a shot of the finished look, but it does clean up my trunk area. However, you may be right. That spare tire and wheel you have is so purdy, you probably don't need it.

Looks real nice. I like the exposed look too, especially with the SS wheel.

Not to knock the originality of the mat kit, but I am tired of that look. I am going to do a modern trunk carpet kit in mine. I just want something that looks good and helps reduce the loudness of my exhaust (inside the car).

I went with an updated look as well. I just templated some plywood out and had them covered in black vinyl. I then bit the bullet and bought a Boyd Coddington spare to match the wheels on my car. I've got about $50.00 in the trunk not counting the spare and fire extinguisher. I'll see if I can get a few updated pics to show. I like the exposed spare as well especially as nice as your's looks.
