Default front end shaking when applying brakes

i recently replaced everything that has to do with the drum breaks on my 66 mustang 289. when im driving around 35 and apply the breaks the front end shakes. i talked to a mechanic and he said the drums may have to be turned however they are new so why would that have to be? the only thing i didn't replace was the wheel bearings which could be the problem but i have know idea. thanks for all replies. kevin

Where did you get your drums? if they are low quality it is possible that they need to be turned, or warrantied.

From your post I assume you have drum brakes on all four wheels. New drums sometimes do have to be turned with just a light passing to remove any residue from the manufacturing process. It is possible that your front end may have some problems like worn bushings, tie rods, or ball joints that may magnify a slightly out of round brake component. Since you mentioned wheel bearings, I would start with those to make sure they have been installed properly, then check the entire front end out for worn parts.
