Windshield leak
Ok, guys, need some advice. My car is at the body shop today and they were going to fix the cowl leak. Turns out the cowl isn't leaking ... it's at the windshield. They called a glass shop who told them to run a plastic spoon under to check for sealer, and I have some there. They said they could reseal it but there is a 2% chance it will still leak as Mustangs are notorious for this.
I rarely take it out in the rain so it's not an issue really. Should I get it fixed even if it won't really fix it permanently, or just not take it out in the rain? I bought the cowl cover anyway so this will keep out the tree "stuff" that can fall into it.
Back window leaked onto the package tray but the restoration guys never fixed it. This guy looked and said the leak was (if I remember right) on a pan at a body seam under the quarter panel area, and there were 2 pin spots that needed to be fixed and he did so. I'm REALLY glad even though I bought new weather stripping as I didn't want to chance pulling the back window and having it crack.
(I don't have the car back, they're checking the vacuum hose for leaks since I told them the brakes don't seem to work properly at first).

well, you are lucky it isn't a cowl problem! LOL! def install the cowl cover. as per the windows, how much to completely re-seal them and how much to d a "patch job" that will prolly leak again? depends, you say it doesn't really see the rain, so just plug what ya got and be done withit. you should be alright as long as you don't hit a flash flood! LOL!
Every time you wash your car, you will get water either underneath the rubber seal or inside the car. That will futher exaserbate the rust that will continue to eat away. If it were mine, I would have them pull the windshield and replace the rubber seal with the proper 3-M sealant. Same goes for the back window. That is one of the most notorious places for rust to occur in these old cars. Fix it now, and fix it right, then you won't have to worry about those rust spots probably for the rest of your life. You are very lucky that it was not the cowl that was leaking.
The rust spot under the back window was fixed when it was restored -- a 2"x2" spot. Can't understand why they didn't fix the leak then. I don't want to pull the windshield since I'm afraid it will crack; same with the back window. I want to keep the original glass.
I didn't ask how much to reseal it as he didn't offer the option to patch or reseal the entire thing, just said the glass shop does this often to classic cars and without pulling the windshield, the patch job doesn't work 2% of the time. I'll talk to him in the morning when I pick it up and ask him what he thinks I should do as well. Oh, I never ask the cost of things, I just want stuff fixed!
I haven't washed it yet for a lot of reasons, the biggest (don't you dare laugh!) being I know that you must dry it totally or the water will eat at the paint, and I can't reach the middle of the car roof or hood to dry it properly.

That is about the best excuse, and I mean excuse, that I have ever heard for not washing a car.
They make step stools, doncha' know?

They make step stools, doncha' know?
And it's not an excuse, it's the truth -- I said don't laugh!
Be glad y'all aren't height-challenged!
(And yeah, when I clean off the top I open the door and stand on the ledge, but I still can't reach the very middle of the roof).
DO NOT LAUGH.
