Default RE: 289 carb/intake question

For less than a $1,000, you can double your HP with Intake, Carb, Cam, Lifters, Push rods, and Headers. Edlbrock makes a performer kit that has everything you need but the headers. Good tri-y headrs are $150.

This assumes your 289 is not a old, leaky, warn out, no compression pile of crap.[sm=smiley4.gif]

oh yeah. you have no idea how much HP a simple carb and intake will make. I had a 302 with a stock 2 barrel manifold and carb, i put on a stock 4 barrel manifold with a 650cfm holley and it was way better. i would reccomend a Edelbrock Performer Intake, with either a 600 carb if you want to save money on gas or a 650 if that doesnt matter.

It will make a difference. The 289 is a STRONG motor and will handle it just fine. Simple swap, you may have to re-adjust the linkage for the 4bbl, but that's it.
