good deal?
i have $700 to spend on brakes and my suspension. from mustangsunlimited they have a "super kit" for the front suspension rebuild kits. it comes to $481.38 after tax all i have to do is go there so no s/h charges.
american pony parts has a drum brake kit. it says it includes brake shoes, wheel cylinders, hardware and adjusters for all 4 wheels. tax and sub total is $192.50 but i didnt include s/h charges.
with these two items done all i need is paint bumpers and im looking at consoles.

I just had some brake work done to mine.
Here is a run down of what I purchased and the approximate cost:
(4) new wheel cylinders: about $12.00ea at advance auto = $48
(4) new sets of brake springs: about $6ea at autozone = $24
(4) new sets of brake adjusters/cables: about $6ez at autozone = $24
(1) set of rear brake shoes from AutoZone: = $14
(1) set of front brake shoes from AutoZone: = $14
(2) new rear brake drums: about $45ea from Napa = $90
(2) new grease seals: about $3ea from Advance Auto = $6
Total was about $220 for all of this. So if your kit includes brake drums all the way around, it is a great deal. If it just includes springs, cylinders, adjusters, and shoes you may want to peice together the parts from local stores.
I believe my shoes, cylinders, springs, and adjusters all have a lifetime warranty. While the drums and grease seals have a 90 day.
Hope this helps.

I agree with Kris. You should be able to source good replacement parts for your brakes at the local auto parts store. Save on the S&H and go local. Suspension parts are a better idea from the specialtiy places...however, I bet you can source many of them locally as well.
well im getting my suspension from mustangs unlimited since its only a hour drive. all the parts stores around here dont carry parts for my car. they have parts for 67s but not 66 and they carry 10' drums and have to order 9' brake parts
Well, you guys know my theory. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If all you need is brake shoes, then just replace the brake shoes. The ones I put on the rear of my 65 today were right at 21 bux. So, for less than 50 bux, you could replace all four corners. If the wheel cylinders aren't leaking, leave them be. The springs and other stuff are re-usable, so no need to repplace those unless they are either broken or rusted out. One of the important things to do while you have the hubs off, is to have them turned. Depending on how much of a groove is worn, they will only take out what is necessary. If the hubs are too far gone, most of them are about 50 bux each for new ones.
