Diff leak?
I got some clear brownish liquid always hanging on the bottom of my differential and I think its leaking out the back cap thing? Im taking the whole rear end off to clean up and replace, do I need a new seal for that cap? Also, what is that called anyways? Its a 9". Can you just stick a screwdriver under it and pop it off? Thanks
The car hasnt been driven for about 6-7 years so perhaps the seals dried up? Here are some pics from behind, under, and the front from the side. You can see dark patches where its coming from and especially the bottom. The whole thing is rusting ( which is why im dropping it to clean) except the bottom where that crap has been hanging out. No its not gasoline becuase i just replaced the gas tank with a new one and the gas lines are gone.

A gasket and a pinion seal. That is the two places they usually leak. You have oil in some strange places though. I can't imagine that it would be coming from some where else but heck I was wrong once already today.
Ooooh, Lordy. What a rusty differential. Has that thing been under water?
As stated, you have some leakage in some unusual places. Maybe rust has eaten through where there are no gaskets? I guess you will find out when you get it torn down, but she does have to be yanked and torn apart and inspected.
