Weird overheating problem
Have you tried to make sure the rotation of the WP matches the impeller installed in it? I believe a Mustang is supposed to be Clockwise (when looking at the motor) some water pumps have the wrong impeller on their shafts and are meant for counterclock wise rotation. Also, I noticed you don't (didn't) mention a clutch fan. Do you have one installed?
I might be a newbie in this forum... but I'm not when it comes to working on cars...hahahahaaa... Thanks again for all your suggestions, it just might end up being that FORD wans't as good as GM when designing cooling system's in the late 1960's :-) I'll keep you posted!

well I'm not trying to insult you but I know even the most experienced people miss the little things sometimes....
here's some other suggestions you may or may not have thought of.
add a Fan shroud
add a radiator with autotranny cooler (if you don't already have one)
Drop the coolant to a ratio of 60% water 40% coolant.

1960's Ford engines may have their flaws, but check out the winning numbers between Ford and GM back in the 60's. It is not real wise to come onto a Mustang forum and make such a suggestion about the quality of the GM engines VS the Ford engines.
Easy man... easy, I love my FORD too! hahahahaaa.... don't worry, I'm NOT one of those ignorant GM guys that has a sticker of the guy pissing on FORD... hahahaa! First and foremost, I'm a car lover, so naturally I love all American muscle cars! But getting back to what I might fix the car.... I think what the fix to the problem might be a high flow water pump and a 4 row aluminum radiator and a separate radiator for the tranny. And if that doesn't fix it.... then I'll get that sticker for my Firebird [8D] hahahaaa.. just kidding! Thanks again gentleman for the suggestions!
Are you aware there is a right and wrong way to install the head gaskets? There are water passages in the head gasket that must go to the back of the head on both sides. If the passages were install to the front of the head it can overheat the car.
Yes, one of the guys I buy all my parts from told me that after we had installed the gasket. My friend who is a mechanic installed the head gasket with me. We made sure that the gaskets did not block any water passages. I would say we are both 99% sure we installed it correctly. That 1% has been frustrating me because it was midnight when we put the heads on! I think if all the components don't fix the problem, that will be the first place I look! If I remember correctly, the guy told me that the passenger side head is a bit more tricky than the drivers side since there are water passages in more obscure places! Thanks for the suggestion bro! I hope this isn't what's haunting me! [&o]
Your flues in your radeator my be pluged take to a radiator shop have then to pull the cap and brush them out ?( If you see any white crust any where then, try that!
Can your oil pan screen the lift to your oil pump,might be getting pluged ? Pull your oil pan and see ? If the oil slows up it can over heat!
Over heat lack of oil flow, radiator flow,Fan cluch not pulling enought air across the radiator, Crush slowing the flow in the Engine and bugs restricting air flow in grill and radiator . Hope you find it !

Aouto transmissions run at about 280 degrees in working order. A trans cooler before the oil enters the radiator cooler has got to help. Also just a thought. If the trans has some slippage creating extra heat that would cause a problem.
