Default adjusting 3 speed shifter

my shifter is shot, wobbly and all over the place. got a rebuild kit, is the alignment hole on top of tranny in the shifter housing to line up the lingkage rods? if not, where is it. i replaced the z bar bushings, and now this, so hopefully will fix the horrible shifting problem. The z bar was so loose it was rocking back and forth.

Sounds like you need a shifter rebuild kit like this one.

Take the **** off, take the boot off. Take the two bolts out and lift the shifter handle out. Replace the worn parts with the new ones. Put it back together. It's really just that simple.

After installing the kit, leave the linkage arms to the transmission off the shifter. Put the shifter in neutral. There is a hole in the side of the shifter body side plates. I use the biggest allen wrench that fits. now with the transmission in neutral, adjust the linkage arms from the transmission until the clevis pin fits nicely through the linkage arm on the shifter.
Remove the allen wrench, and with the rear end up on jack stands run the car through the gears at just above idle. Should shift smoothly through the gears.
I like synthetic grease to lubricate the shifter linkage. It doesn't wash out, or dry up.
Also the linkage arm bolts don't get tightened down too much. They should be self locking nuts. The torque value depends on the transmission type and year. You'll want to look that part up.

Good luck,
