Default Dip Stick Question on 289

I just changed my oil today, and I found that the dipstick is showing full after only adding 3 3/4 litres of oil, before I changed it the dipstick was showing full. When I emptied the old oil back into the container it was the same amount that I added in. I have only drove this car for a total of 3 hours before I tore it apart and fixed the frame. The engine was rebuilt by the previous owner and has aproximatley 4000 miles on it, have receipts.
I thought the 289 held aproximately 5.5 litres. My dipstick is 18 3/4 inches long from the bottom to the bottom of the handle and my tub is aproximately 10 inches long. Can anyone take a measurement of there dipstick and tub and let me know what there measurements are.
Thanks

You must be an Aussie. Amercans don't deal with liters, just quarts. Your engine requires 5 US quarts with an oil filter change.

I meased the spare dip stick I have it is about 18 3/4 from the bottom of the handle to the tip and the tube is about 10in also. Did you change the oil filter in holds 1 US Quart in that and even with draining it you can't get it all out.

I did the math 3.75 liter = 3.962 580 769 quart [US, liquid]. He is still a quart short. If you didn't change the filter that is where the other quart went.

I did change the oil filter, but before I changed the oil the dipstick was showing full and when I drained the old oil out plus the oil in the filter I still had under 4 litres. I guess I will have to make sure and add 5 quarts when I do my oil changes and ignore the dipstick.

I would put 5 in it, start it and then let it sit for awhile, then remark the dip stick and call it good.
