Default 302 problems no low end

Hi all new here. seems like alot of knowledgeable people here, sorry for such a long first post.

Heres the run down.I built this engine for my 66 mustang (289 was done)Heres what i have in the engine H.O Flat tops .30 all arp bolts etc stock rods, edelbrock RPM heads w/ trick flow 1.6 rockers, RPM air gap intake, Ford racing E303 cam, 670 cfm holley, all MSD ignition. I had the car on the DYNO long enough to find out jetting was dead on but i had a small oil leak and had to stop the run.

The problem is no torque it lugs off the line and never really pulls i can be at a 30mph roll in 2nd go back to 1st gear it will rev to 6000 no problem but it just sounds good i'm really not going anywhere. For what i have in this engine it should pull way better then it does. I went over timing, cam timing, air leaks checked plugs everything is how it should be but it just dont run right i'm lost.
The trans is a TCI built C4 with a 1900-2100 stall. 9ich rear with 3.70 gears.
I looking more at the cam being the problem not enough stall for the power band, the car is more of a street machine then a racer although i want to hold my own in a little red light to red light action.
I never had a SBF with all new parts run like this one i bet the problem is something i'm over looking.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.
Dennis

Hey,
Sounds like an awsome package, but your stall sounds too low for the combo you are have. I have a similar combo but with a slightly smaller cam and it calls for at least a 2500 stall. I dont beleive that is totally to blame for your problem, but it is definatly robbing you of some off the line, low end power.

The cam is set +4 (get more compression at low rpms). I really dont want a big stall, my wife does drive the car once and a while and she wouldnt like it or she would end up in someones living room. I'm trying to find a way i can get more low end grunt without hurting the drivability too much.
Thanks Dennis

I run 10 degrees at 1000rpm, and 38 total by 2500rpm with a bit larger cam.

If you can, post some pics of your engine. Not from 30 feet away, but a nice overall underhood shot. Sometimes things jump out at you when looking at a pic like that. its really difficult to diagnose a problem online, more info always helps.

Even with the stall you have it should leave a couple black marks when you floor it. Have you checked the brakes? Is the park brake on? I know silly question but you would be surprised at how many times something like that is the cause.

You do realize your best et would be around a low 14 to a mid 13 right? If you have been driving anything else that runs better than that it will seem slow in comparison. Just a thought, since some of us have vehicles that range from pathetic to incredibly fast, and when I drive the F150 after a few passes in the 10 second car, it feels woefully inadequate...

Thanks for the input.

I just remembered something when i last drove the car it seemed to run better and pull off the line harder with less timing more on the retarted side it really has me thinking WTF everytime i mess with it. I really havent had alot of time to go over the car with all the hours i have been pulling the past few weeks.

I know its hard to get an idea over the net just hoping to get some ideas of what to check out. As for power, with all this it will have a hard time breaking the tires lose from a dead stop, it just dont seem right to me like something isnt there. I'll get a photos up here in a few minutes. As for brakes it has all wheel disc with no parking brake, all wheels move freely.
