Belt size?
Anyone have any idea what size belt a 68 fastback with a 302 would use to go around an alternator, fan, and crank? Napa and Checkers can't seem to give me the right ones being I've been through 5 differant belt sizes. My fastback likes to break belts every six months or so and I have no idea what's causing it.
Do you still have the original belt that fit? If so, take it in and slap it on the counter and say "match it." Otherwise, use the string thing and get an approximate length. If you are breaking that often, then you are getting them too tight.
No, I lost the original on the freeway the day I almost seized the engine. Short story, bad bad day for me.. All I have is shoe lace so the length is a bit off. I ended up lengthening it some and it was still too short to get over the alternator when it was resting on the mounthing bracket. There's no trick to getting it on is there? Just loop it over the crank, fan, and alternator when it's loosened all the way right?
No, differen rotation. The older 302s all used standard rotation water pumps and front covers. All front covers will interchange, but do not use the incorrect rotation water pump (reverse rotation with std cover, or vice versa) or you will have overheating problems. The late model covers also do not usually have the mechanical fuel pump provision so keep that in mind if you do not want to run an electric pump.
The guy I had swap out my old 302 for the cobra one didn't use any of the electronics for it. He kept it pretty much the same, took off the EFI and put my carb on it, that kind of stuff. Regardless, I'll have to run out and grab a water pump from the looks of it. Not to mention a new charge indecator, I noticed some water in the guage as it spat out some smoke.. *sigh* When my cars strt to go, they go in the worst way... Here's to hoping my wheels stay on.
So I looked for a water pump in the fastback to see if I can take it in for a "gimme one of these" situation and I can't seem to locate anything that resembles one. *sigh* Learning sucks.
