Default Repro Quarter panel quality

I just purchased my full quarter panels from NPD for my 66 coupe. Has anyone noticed or had problems with quality once installed?

I am concerned because the gauge is not as thick as the originals. Same applies to the doorskins I purchased.

Last, in order to paint do I just make sure they are clean, do metal prep, and prime? Your supposed to paint over the black stuff right?

I just replaced my radiator support and fendor apron, along with the fendor on the RH side of my 1965 coupe. I bought the support, apron, and fendor from Mustangs Unlimited and was also disappointed in the quality and gauge of the sheetmetal. It is a daily driver, so it will have to work for now, but I plan on replacing it in the future.
The fendor I bought had to be adjusted to fit. My door would not open until the fendor bolt holes were drilled out some so we could scoot the fendor down, not by much tho.
I haven't gotten around to paint. I think I remember the guy saying that there was some prep work to be done before painting.
I guess you have to buy Ford tooled parts to get the good stuff.
Good luck.

Yes, you're supposed to paint over the black stuff, so normal prep and paint there. As far as quality, there will be some fitment issues here and there. Repos are not "exact" fit, but if the car is going to be used as a driver and not 100% show, it's nothing that can't be hidden by a good bodyman. Try to buy the panels that are made in the USA.
