Default Timming on hp 302

i finally got my 302 running and just need to tune it up. i read 6 for 289 and 12 for 302, i tried 6 just to see and it ran like crap and i did 12 and it is good. Anyone recommend a specific degree? or is 12 right?

You're in the right ball park. Every engine is a little different, so you could try to advance/retard a degree or two and see how it runs.

Depends how you built the motor. I have run them as high as 24 degrees initial timing to get them to run the best. The biggest factor is the cam.
