To cut or not to cut?
Still pondering over my exhaust and i thought a couple of opinions would help me out. Since i got my tailpipes and i don't know what to do because it really isn't pleasing me. i wanted loud and mean and their just too quiet. Plus the x pipe isn't helping out at all.
Number 4 i wasn't really even sure if that is possible.

You realize that the "tailpipe" is only what sticks out from the rear of the vehicle, don't you? And cutting it off will make little (if any) difference to your overall sound. Are you meaning to suggest removing your exhaust pipes altogether? Leaving nothing but the manifolds (or headers)? That's not only illegal, but insane as well.
Look - just go to a shop and have your crossover (X-pipe) removed completely and your mufflers replaced with a pair of cheap glasspacks. You'll loose low-end torque and an equalized system, but it'll be loud as all get-out and shake all over. If you drive the car very often at all, you'll grow tired of the racket in a couple months and pay through the nose to have the crossover and a decent set of turbo mufflers put back on.
Live and learn, I supppose...

sounded like a V6 with a nice intake and seemed to flow a bit easier and go a bit faster. [>:] still trying to figure that part out.i heard flowmaster has pipes or mufflers which give it a sweet sound during acceleration but kinda level out once you hit cruising speed.
When I rebuilt my engine, I went from some crappy Hooker headers to Tri-Ys. Only problem was the collectors were a different size...requiring welding new mates for the exhaust pipes. I hung the exhauts with some wire...fired up the Mustang (extremley loud) and proceded to drive to the muffler shop. I was gettin' on it a bit and...man, the torque and acceleration was fantastic. Let me tell you about loud...I couldn't hear the stereo I drove most of the way with little accelerator work...I kept off the gas as much as possible. I felt like I was waiting at the line...watching the Christmas tree at the local strip. That little 289 was cracklin like crazy. A local cruiser pulled up across the intersection from me as I was nearing the muffler shop...the cop passed by nodding his head.
It was cool.
It was cool.
